Several other media outlets also reported Durham has been tapped to lead the inquiry.

"There is a substantial investigation, which as I understand it, is nearing completion, being conducted by the Justice Department Inspector General", Clapper said.

Durham, US attorney in CT, has been tapped by Barr to examine special counsel Robert Mueller's probe's inception, the New York Times reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.

"The investigation had nothing to do with the [Steele] dossier, it frankly had nothing to do with the Trump campaign".

"I became President of the United States in one of the most hard fought and consequential elections in the history of our great nation", Pres. Trump wrote. He had 18 people that didn't like Donald Trump that were Hillary Clinton fans.

Rift over fresh referendum leaves Brexit talks running out of road
It's a blind alley. "And for those that voted to leave, they'll blame us for having not got the country out of the EU". Corbyn's aides say he's trying to ensure the support of the third of Labour supporters who favor Brexit .

Barr angered Democrats last month when he echoed language used by Trump's allies in saying he shared concerns about "spying" on Trump's campaign.

"So if you are a Democrat, I think you would be really anxious to see the appointment of a career prosecutor like this". "He's totally above politics", said Starr, noting that the Obama administration gave Durham some key assignments, including an investigation of Central Intelligence Agency detainees.

The bureau relied heavily on information from Steele, a former British spy, to obtain foreign intelligence surveillance warrants against Carter Page. The agency's watchdog is also examining the Russian Federation probe's origins and Barr has said he expects the watchdog report to be done in May or June.

Durham was nominated by Trump in 2017 after serving as a lawyer within the Justice Department since 1982, according to The Times. Durham was asked to help Barr to "ensure that intelligence collection activities by the U.S. Government related to the Trump 2016 Presidential Campaign were lawful and appropriate". At the time, Connecticut's two Democratic senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, called Durham a "fierce, fair prosecutor" who knows how to try tough cases. Trump selected him to be the US attorney in CT, and he was confirmed by the Senate in 2018.

Durham also ran a task force looking into allegedly corrupt dealings between law enforcement officials in Boston and James "Whitey" Bulger, a now-deceased crime gang leader.
