Texas officer shoots dead woman heard on video saying 'I'm pregnant'

Texas officer shoots dead woman heard on video saying 'I'm pregnant'

A Texas police officer fatally shot a woman who grabbed his Taser and used it against him, moments after the woman appears to say "I'm pregnant" in an altercation captured on video.

Officials say the officer knew the 44-year-old woman had outstanding warrants and attempted to arrest her.

Click2Houston reports that the shooting occurred late Monday night at the Brixton Apartments. "I'm actually walking to my house".

Antoinette, Turner's sister, told local station KPRC that the officer was her sister's neighbor and that her sibling had previously filed complaints against the cop for harassing her.

"The female was able to get the officer's Taser away from him", he said, according to KPRC.

"It appears that as the officer was then attempting to handcuff the female she was able to gain control of his Taser and turned it on the officer, Tasing the officer, which forced the officer to draw his duty weapon and fire multiple rounds at the female, striking her at least once", police said. Police said they could not confirm whether she was pregnant and that an autopsy will determine that.

The department has not released the names of the woman and officer involved.

"It's a tragic event for everybody involved", Dorris said.

The unidentified officer was patrolling the area when he saw the woman-identified by family as Pamela Turner-who he apparently recognized from "prior dealings".

The Harris County District Attorney's Office is investigating, and the department will conduct an internal review.

Witness video of the incident was widely circulated on social media overnight. The officer has been "placed on administrative leave", KPRC reported.

A neighbour in Baytown, near Houston, Raquelle Cuellar told ABC 13: "It was a sad situation".

Residents of the apartment complex told the station that Turner was harmless and that she typically just walked around the neighborhood with her pet.

Police are searching for the person who recorded the video, with Dorris denouncing the action. "It's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved, but that's the day and age we live in with social media".
