Rape of toddler sparks protests, clashes in Indian Kashmir

Protests erupted on Monday in parts of the Kashmir Valley against the rape of a three-year-old, allegedly by a local youth in north Kashmir, forcing the authorities to close all educational institutes.

"Mortified to hear about the rape of a three-year-old in Sumbal". One of her relatives said the accused lured the child with candy, abducted and then raped her.

Reports said the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents after which they lodged a complaint on sunday against the accused at Ganderbal police station. SSP, Bandipora, Rahul Malik confirmed that the principal had been detained for further questioning, but did not disclose his name or the name of the school. The protestors demanded that the culprit should be hanged in public, so that "such an incident is not repeated in the future".

As the protests intensified, police used tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protestors, leaving several injured.

A police official said the youth had been arrested, and a special investigation team constituted to investigate the case. But the principal had stated his date of birth as July 23, 2009, making him just nine years old. "Society often blames women for inviting unwanted attention but what was this child's fault?Times like these, Shariah law seems apt so that such paedophiles are stoned to death", she wrote.

People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba said shariah law seems to flawless to deal with such cases.

Kodak Black Arrested on Weapons Charges
Black, who was born Dieuson Octave , is also facing trial on allegations that he raped a high-school student in SC . South Florida rapper Kodak Black was arrested in Miami-Dade on Saturday night on weapons charges, police confirmed.

"On learning about the unfortunate incident, the governor immediately spoke to SP Pani, IGP Kashmir, and took a detailed review of the ongoing investigations into the case", the spokesman said.

At some places, Shia protesters waved the flags of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

"The students resorted to stone pelting on the police from inside the campus".

While speaking to the media in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan appealed the people to maintain the peace.

"Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed deep shock and pain over the extremely heinous incident of rape of a 3-year-old girl from Bandipora district", a press statement from the Raj Bhavan said. "I am personally monitoring the inquiry and it will be concluded very soon...."

"Justice will be done and the culprit will be given fair punishment as per the law", he said.
