Michigan Wolverines head men's basketball coach John Beilein will leave the college ranks to turn pro himself this fall, the shocking news of his leaving Ann Arbor coming early on Monday.

At Michigan, he won Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, made two trips to the national championship game and annually developed under-recruited prospects into potential NBA players.

Beilein replaces Larry Drew, who finished last season after Tyronn Lue was sacked six games into the campaign. The 2018-19 season marked their first season since LeBron James left for a second time and it ended on a 10-game losing streak. He also served an interim head coach with the Rockets after the firing of Kevin McHale.

Beilein also previously coached at Nazareth College in Rochester, West Virginia University, Canisius College in Buffalo and Richmond University.
