Angry Fans Hurl Abuse At Manchester United's Paul Pogba

Manchester United ended their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to relegated Cardiff City, for whom Nathaniel Mendez-Laing struck in each half to give them a fine farewell from the top flight.

United, which sacked manager Jose Mourinho last December and replaced him with former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, finished the season in sixth place with 66 points, 32 points behind champions Manchester City, failing to qualify for the Champions League. Find out by following our live matchcast.

"Challenging for the title next year would be a miraculous season because we are so far behind at the moment, points-wise", Solskjaer said on BBC Football. "I've been in the reserves and we send them away saying "come on look after yourself" because you never know what the manager is going to do when you come back after the summer", Solskjaer added.

United are scheduled to visit Australia, Singapore and China for four matches in July, although their schedule could be disrupted if they are forced to start in the second qualifying round of next season's Europa League.

Each player has been given an individual fitness and nutrition plan for the summer to keep them in top shape in the off-season and Solskjaer has insisted that if the plans are not adhered to, players will be dropped from pre-season. "Next season we've got a great challenge ahead".

"We've been poor, we've hit a brick wall towards end of the season and that's very disappointing".

Instead it was visiting substitute Eddie Nketiah who enjoyed the final word, scoring Arsenal's third deep in stoppage time. The goalkeeper went through the back of the Burnley man, but Dean didn't see it and booked him for his reaction.

"The last couple of months have been extremely hard for the team, the club and for the players", said Solskjaer.

"Not surprised by his performance, we know he is capable of that." .

Club captain Antonio Valencia and midfielder Ander Herrera will leave, while Juan Mata's contract runs out at the end of the season and Alexis Sanchez could also move on.

At least 17-year-old Mason Greenwood, United's youngest debutant of the Premier League era, enjoyed an impressive first outing - the only United positive on the day.

"We're not going to use the first 10 days to build them up".

"We have to close this gap as quick as we can".
