Englands Archer stars again before rain washes out Pakistan ODI

Andrew Flintoff has urged England to drop "anyone" in order to make sure Jofra Archer has a place in their World Cup squad.

Not only for Archer, but this would also be a good opportunity for the Pakistan players as well to make things fall in place for the ICC World Cup 2019. He took one wicket and conceded just six runs in four overs before rain meant there was no result in the first ODI of a five-match series.

The rain returned after 16.4 overs, with Imam-ul-Haq (42no) and Haris Sohail (14no) having somewhat quelled England's early onslaught, but play resumed for only 14 deliveries before the weather interrupted proceedings once more.

'I was watching him bowl and I found it so frustrating a bloke can bowl so fast with what looks like so little effort.

Archer showed glimpses of his ability while making ODI and Twenty20 worldwide debuts against Ireland and Pakistan last week. "If they come in and bowl well, they deserve to be there".

The Madrid Open is his first clay tournament as he prepares to return to the French Open after a three-year absence. The Frenchman continued to have the upper hand in the third jumping out to a 4-1 lead until Federer roared back.

Former England fast bowling all-rounder Flintoff is a fan of the "unbelievable" Archer.

It was not long before Archer dismissed Fakhar Zaman - the century-making star of Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy final win over India at The Oval - for three after he edged to Test skipper Joe Root in the slips.

"I thought he bowled some good spells, or one or two spells in Ireland without too much luck and I thought he bowled pretty well in the T20 match a couple of days ago".

And Archer seized his latest chance in Wednesday´s opening contest of a five-match ODI series with Pakistan after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss.

"However, given that I have been one of the worst performing bowlers in the world over the past two years, others have to step in to get me into the World Cup squad - because of course how can I not be in the World Cup squad", he added.
