Ocasio-Cortez labels new Georgia abortion law as a 'backdoor ban'

Ocasio-Cortez labels new Georgia abortion law as a 'backdoor ban'

The state laws directly challenge a woman's right to an abortion as established by the 1973 supreme court decision in Roe v Wade, and are expected to be struck down by the courts. The new law means abortions are illegal after about six weeks of pregnancy.

"It is important to remember that similar legislation has been attempted in other states, and has either been enjoined by the courts or now being challenged", the Motion Picture Association of America said in a statement.

"We can not in good conscience continue to recommend our industry remain in Georgia", she said. Similar bans - often referred to as "heartbeat bills", a term many gynecologists have called medically inaccurate - have been passed in Mississippi, Ohio and Kentucky this year, and are being considered in several other states. This generally happens at or around six weeks.

Kemp said what made Georgia an appealing environment for the industry to begin with was that it reflected a different culture and environment than Hollywood.

Most of the men writing these bills don't know the first thing about a woman's body outside of the things they want from it.

Georgia has an uncapped tax incentive for film productions, hence its popularity as a filming location.

Three production companies are already pledging to not film in Georgia after Gov. Brian Kemp signed the controversial "heartbeat bill" earlier this week.

Game of Thrones star takes responsibility over THAT coffee cup blunder
Emilia Clarke has poked fun at the recent coffee cup error in Game of Thrones by posting a picture of her holding a hot beverage on set. "I don't even drink Starbucks ".

"This risky and deeply-flawed bill mimics many others which have already been deemed unconstitutional".

"Well, you know me", she added, visibly emotional.

Georgia's Republican governor on Tuesday signed legislation outlawing abortion if a doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat, part of a concerted effort to restrict abortion rights in states across the country. "And I think that we all need to be talking more and sharing our stories more". "This is the precipice on which you stand".

"And I can't sit idly by while a child, who's heart beats inside of you, is murdered because you can't accept consequences for your actions", one follower replied in the comments section of the post.

While there are a few big stars like Ben Stiller and known leftist Alec Baldwin on the list, it should be noted even film and tv enthusiasts would be hard-pressed to recognize more than half of the names.

The law has been met with protest, with dozens showing up outside the Georgia Capitol building. She interpreted this event as a sign of forgiveness. Life is more precious than their art. And we are publicly supporting any states that pass courageous new legislation like the LIFE Act to defend the defenseless.
