Android Auto Receives An Overhaul; Gets New Features

It will be version 10, but the company hasn't shared its final name. According to Android Police, Pie is now installed across 10.4 percent of Android devices - that may not seem like much, but context matters here.

Ahead of Google I/O 2019 getting under way in earnest starting Tuesday, one early announcement the company chose to go ahead and tee up on Monday was a long overdue redesign for Android Auto - Google's smart driving companion and infontainment setup that's getting a fresh look and new features this summer. As soon as speech is detected, captions will appear, without ever needing Wi-Fi or cellphone data.

Can reduce power usage by a significant amount (depending on the device's screen technology). There's also a new notification center which shows recent calls, messages and alerts.

Set to be launched this summer, Assistant's new driving mode will be automatically launched when it connects to your car's Bluetooth system.

Even more important is that in the new Android Auto, navigation no longer has to be interrupted when you use another app. There are tools for more transparency around location too, because it's very personal info. A few examples of the latter include prompts to resume a podcast you previously started, as well as navigating to a restaurant where you've got a dinner reservation. And you get fine grained control when granting the location permission, with three options: allow access all the time, only while using the app, or deny location access.

Milano wrote that if the bill passed, "we can not in good conscience continue to recommend our industry remain in Georgia". The ACLU of Georgia has already said that it would file a suit against Georgia over the bill if it is signed into law.

Some parts of the Android framework will be updated in the background without requiring a reboot. Security update were already getting special treatment, with manufacturers having to release them each month, but now the Android maker is looking to streamline the procedure by making it better, faster and more convenient. Google have worked with OEMs to implement new gestures into Android Q with what seems to be a swipe up from the bottom and a swipe in from either side.

Lastly, Google announced a more general update for Flutter on mobile. Obviously Google want developers to take the first route.

"You can select the apps you find distracting-such as email or the news-and silence them until you come out of Focus mode", Cuthbertson said.
