Tiger Woods plans to visit White House to meet with President Trump

The event will be "invitation only" and take place in the Rose Garden, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Thursday.

Tiger Woods (R) of the United States smiles after being awarded the Green Jacket by Masters champion Patrick Reed (L) during the Green Jacket Ceremony after winning the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on April 14, 2019 in Augusta, Georgia.

Woods will receive the award from Donald Trump, who is a long-time friend and business partner of the golfer.

"The Medal of Freedom, established by President John F. Kennedy, isawarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors". The first round of the PGA Championship, where Woods will be seeking his 15th major, is on May 16.

Varner said he texted Woods his displeasure about him skipping the Wells Fargo Championship - especially since he learned the PGA Tour had plans to group them together for the first two rounds. "He said, 'Well, I can die now.' We're laughing". We were basically sold out for the weekend, but the requests just poured in across the board in lots of ways. Woods will be grouped with Brooks Koepka and Francesco Molinari at Bethpage Black.
