Trump urges Americans to get measles vaccine

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar released a statement regarding the measles outbreak and said that vaccinations are the only way to keep the country safe.

Children typically get their first dose between 12 and 15 months of age and get their second dose right before they go into preschool or kindergarten after the age of 4.

This stance is a surprising reversal, given that Trump has spent years promoting conspiracy theories that vaccines cause autism and questioning the safety of the pediatric vaccine schedule.

Suffolk officials on Friday said a person infected with the measles visited three locations on the East End. "This is really going around now", said Trump to reporters at the White House.

President Donald Trump weighed in on the recent measles outbreak in the United States, appearing to do an about-face on his previous claims linking child vaccinations to autism.

The states that have reported measles cases to the CDC are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee and Washington.

A UNICEF study found that measles deaths were up by 22% in 2017, and complacency and fear of vaccines were among the factors leading to less vaccinations. "But I want smaller doses over a longer period of time", Trump said during a presidential primary debate on CNN. It has gotten totally out of control.

Measles is one of the world's most contagious viruses.
