Russian Federation closes Vladivostok school building ahead of Kim, Putin summit

Russian Federation announced Thursday that Kim will visit later this month for talks at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, but gave no further details.

He gave the USA a year-end deadline to offer new terms for a deal involving the North's denuclearization, in exchange for sanctions relief, but he was pessimistic that the US would get a better deal than the one he offered President Trump in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February.

Kwon said Kim had taken a "principled stand" on the talks with the United States in a recent speech to the North Korea's rubberstamp parliament.

Pompeo added that Kim claimed he wanted to fully dismantle the nuclear program by the end of the year; he, on the other hand, would "love to see that done sooner".

The North Korean statement said Pompeo was "misrepresenting the meaning of our requirement" for the negotiations to be finalized by the year's end, and referred to his "talented skill of fabricating stories".

The White House said it was aware of the launch report and had no comment.

"It's highly likely that it's a short-range cruise missile that can be transformed into a surface, an air-to-surface, an air-to-ship, a ship-to-ship, as well as a surface-to-surface cruise missile", Kim Dong-yub said.

South Korean experts added that Kim's consecutive inspection at military sites not only aimed for voicing their presence, but also to relieve anxiety among the North Korean people by reassuring the leader's determination in strong national defense.

"I don't want to rush anybody", Trump said.

Russian Federation has urged the United Nations to ease sanctions on the North. U.S. special envy on North Korea Steven Biegun is in Moscow Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the expected visit.

He said last April he would stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles because North Korea's nuclear capabilities had been verified, but he has never promised to stop testing all weapons.

"It suggests to me that this may have been to demonstrate internally that despite talks with the U.S., Kim is no slouch on maintaining a strong defensive capability", Ankit Panda, an adjunct senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists and an global security analyst, told NK News. North Korean media said Wednesday that Kim guided a flight drill of combat pilots from an air force and anti-aircraft unit tasked with defending the North from an attack.

US intelligence sources say they detected no launch of a ballistic missile Wednesday, which means the weapon tested might have been some sort of battlefield missile fired from a rocket launcher.

Still, the test could be seen as a warning to the United States, amid an impasse in talks over North Korea's nuclear program.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier on Thursday that Fiona Hill, an adviser to US President Donald Trump, had been in Moscow for talks with her Russian counterpart Yuri Ushakov.

The report offered few details about the weapon, except that it was test-fired at various targets, carried a "powerful warhead" and had a "peculiar mode of guiding flight". North Korea has for many years said it needs to defend itself from what it considers USA aggression.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has sharpened his rhetoric since the summit between his country and the USA, urging top ruling party members last week to deal a "severe blow to hostile foreign forces" by resisting sanctions.

Kim's acceptance of Putin's invitation appears to be part of a rebuke to Trump's highest-level envoy.
