Tornado damage reported in Monroe County

Six people were hurt and at least 30 buildings were damaged in Richland County.

Davis said rotating winds were spotted on weather radar in the Philadelphia area early this morning, prompting the weather service to issue a rare tornado warning for most of Philadelphia County, as well as parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties in New Jersey from 3:19 a.m. through 3:45 a.m.

The large storm system also caused flash floods in Louisiana, where two deaths were reported.

Over the weekend, four people died in Texas, two in Louisiana, one in MS and another in Alabama. No injuries have been reported, but officials said several businesses and vehicles were damaged.

The affected areas will get heavy rains, winds with gusts of up to 70 miles per hour (110 kph) and the possibility of hail, the NWS reported.

Police in Monroe County earlier described the destruction from the storm Saturday evening.

By the time they finally arrived at DFW, their travel plans had been completely disrupted.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says 95-year-old Roy Ratliff died late Saturday when a tornado toppled a tree onto Ratliff's home in the town of Hamilton.

Another shop and the Monroe County Morgue were destroyed. The children were pronounced dead at the scene. If there are problems, they fall on my shoulders. And at least three weak tornadoes struck Alabama on Sunday.

"Strong winds will blow around unsecured objects and may blow down tree limbs and power lines".

Downed trees and damage to buildings and a transmission tower were reported, said meteorologist Monique Sellers. Franklin is located about 125 miles (200 kilometers) south of Dallas.

Tens of thousands of utility customers are without power as powerful storms roar through the mid-Atlantic region.

As the storm moved east, one person was killed by a tornado in the northern MS, according to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley.

"A Tornado Watch is in effect for the entire outlook area until 3AM". No fatalities were reported.
