Royal Challengers Bangalore record joint worst start to IPL season

Veteran South African pacer Dale Steyn on Friday joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile, giving a much-needed boost to the bowling department of the bottom-placed team in the IPL.

The Virat Kohli-led side will next face Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 15. De Villiers believes that it would be fantastic to have Steyn back into the lineup. We love playing cricket there.

KXIP captain R. Ashwin blamed his team for being sloppy on the field. We dropped catches and let a lot of balls go through us. It was really dry in the first half.

The same though can not be said about the bowling as only Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have looked good on a consistent basis.

"We tried with wrist spinners and even I came to bowl, but they were smart enough to knock around and not take any chances". I get to work with university guys back home.

De Villiers admitted that he had got himself out a couple of times without converting, but said that hadn't bogged him down. Kohli, who was recently named the Leading Cricketer of the year for the third successive time by Wisden Almanack, will hope that fortunes finally knock at the doors of RCB as they need to win all their next eight matches to salvage any hope of making it to the play-off.

Kings XI Punjab's Chris Gayle plays a shot during the IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB fans have had little to cheer for on the pitch this season and will be buoyed by the news of a fan-favorite returning to the side.

"I said to him (AB), that he is probably the best player of our generation and he showed it today", he said.

As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh on Saturday.

The other two captains who have paid a hefty fine for slow over-rate this season are Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma and Rajasthan Royals' Ajinkya Rahane.
