'Star Wars' Episode IX 'Rise of Skywalker' sees evil emperor return

If you haven't heard, the new trailer for "Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker" dropped on Friday. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the ninth and final movie of the Skywalker saga that began with A New Hope in 1977.

"We've passed on all we know", Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) says in the background. Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, while Carrie Fisher will return as Leia Organa through archival and unreleased footage.

Speaking at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, the E.T. filmmaker said of the The Rise Of Skywalker, 'This [movie] is the culmination of the Skywalker Saga; it's by no means the culmination of Star Wars'.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20.

'We are not just looking at another trilogy, we're really looking at the next 10 years or more, ' the 65-year-old uber-producer told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. Rey may have come from nothing, but her rising to be a hero that could save the galaxy was monumental - and recalled the early days of Star Wars when we all thought that Luke was just a farmboy. Soon she whips out her lightsaber, one similar to Luke's. The Star Wars family has denied this in the past, and in The Last Jedi, Kylo cruelly showed Rey that her parents were just regular people who abandoned her.

"This is an adventure that the group goes on together", he teased, although he wouldn't reveal whether or not that meant the group on stage or some other combination.

Earlier this week, a major interview with Abrams found the director talking positively about the pressure to get The Rise Of Skywalker right, amidst all the pressure of closing the trilogy and stepping on to the project after original director Colin Trevorrow departed.

"This movie is about this new generation, what they've inherited, the light and the dark, and are they ready?" he said. We could get another Forceback scene, which might be what is shown in the new trailer. "We'll always be with you". After all, this is going to be the war to end all the wars.

Returning cast members for Episode IX include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Lourd.
