Herrera is believed to be willing to continue to listen to Manchester United until the end of the season, and will make the best decision "for him and his family".

The 29-year-old has been on the same terms since he joined from Athletic Bilbao in 2013, meaning his wages are significantly less than those earned by teammates of a similar status.

But now there appears to be little chance of Gueye going to Paris because of Herrera's impending move, the Standard claim he could move to United - but the reported asking price is under £30m.

In an interview with Diario ABC at the weekend, Herrera admitted: "As it is right now, Manchester and I are not thinking alike".

Manchester United are planning to bring in multiple faces to strengthen their squad and challenge for the Premier League title.

'It is true that I have only two months of contract and today Manchester United and I do not think the same and there is no renewal agreement, but my duty is to continue listening to United.

United invoked that clause just before last year's deadline but have failed to negotiate a new deal with the club's 2016-17 player of the season, despite the midfielder's initial, and long-standing, intention to stay beyond the summer.

"He is a midfielder who has all the qualities".

He added: "I will listen to United, of course, but also to other clubs".
