Polling underway for 42 LS seats in Andhra, Telangana

Simultaneous voting will also take place for single phase Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and for 28 of 147 seats in Odisha.

The polling for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 began today at 7 am and is underway.

In Bihar, four seats go to polls on Thursday, with Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party contesting from Jamui, and Gaya (reserved) being contested by Hindustani Awaam Morcha chief and former Chief Minister of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi. In West Bengal that has 42 Lok Sabha seats, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar are going to polls today. In Andhra Pradesh, strong anti-incumbency, caste and corruption are the major factors that could determine the outcome of the elections to Lok Sabha and the state assembly as over 3.93 crore voters get to exercise their franchise. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are three States which will see polling in each of the seven phases.

All parliamentary constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, Telangana and Uttarakhand will go to polls in this phase.

Of Maharashtra's 48 constituencies, voting istaking place in the seven constituencies of Vidharbha in the first phase - Wardha, Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondiya, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Chandrapur, Yavatmal-Washim. State Congress chief Raghuveera Reddy is contesting from Kalyandurg Assembly constituency.

In Telangana, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao's daughter K. Kavihta is seeking re-election from Nizamabad, where 178 farmers who entered the fray to highlight their problems including lack of remunerative prices for their produce.

Polling for all 25 Lok Sabha and 175 assembly seats will be held simultaneously.

The State Election Commission has already dispatched polling parties to their respective stations. There are 2,118 candidates for the state polls and 319 for the Lok Sabha elections.
