Danny Drinkwater charged with drink-driving after crash

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been trolled mercilessly online for the unfortunate irony of being arrested for drink driving.

Speaking on the incident, The Sun quoted a source as saying: "It was a really nasty crash".

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire.

There was also reportedly a female passenger in the auto at the time.

Two women and a man were were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Cheshire Police said.

Drinkwater has played only once for Chelsea this season in the Community Shielf clash against Manchester City - which he lost.

"Danny Drinkwater was arrested shortly after 12.30am on Monday 8 April following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere".
