Steuben County man charged with threatening to kill congresswoman

- A NY man has been charged with threatening to kill Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Carlineo told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he is a patriot, 'loves the president and that he hates radical Muslims in our government, ' the criminal complaint read.

Representatives of Omar, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee who was elected in November as one of the two first Muslim women to win seats in Congress, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Carlineo, Jr. made the statements during a brief March 21 phone call, according to a criminal complaint released Saturday by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of NY.

During the call in question, a voice can be heard saying, 'Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she's a f--ing terrorist.

Carlineo sounded angry during the call but provided the spelling of his name and contact information, the affidavit said.

Authorities didn't say when Carlineo was apprehended, according to The Associated Press, to which the suspect's attorney declined to comment.

Omar admitted to supporting BDS after her election when her campaign told a site called Muslim Girl, "Ilhan believes in and supports the BDS movement, and has fought to make sure people's right to support it isn't criminalized".

Some people perceived Omar's comments as anti-Semitic.

For his alleged threatening remarks against Omar, Carlineo made his first appearance on Friday afternoon before US Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson.

Patrick Carlineo Jr. of Addison, New York, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Friday in a statement. He is being held in jail pending a detention hearing Wednesday in Rochester, N.Y.

Carlineo was charged with placing a threatening call to the Washington office of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
