Pak Foreign Minister Claims India Will Launch New Attack This Month

The warning comes amid simmering tensions since February 26 when Indian jets crossed deep into Pakistan territory and allegedly destroyed the suspected training camp of a militant group New Delhi accuses of plotting terrorism in the divided Kashmir territory.

Pakistan has repeatedly denied any role in the Pulwama attack while Prime Minister Imran Khan has offered cooperation in the investigation if credible evidence was provided by India.

Pakistan on Sunday claimed India was planning new "action" between April 16 and 20, and summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia and issued a demarche warning New Delhi "against any misadventure". "As per our information this could take place between April 16 and 20", Qureshi told reporters in his hometown of Multan.

Tensions escalated sharply after India conducted airstrikes against a Jaish-e-Mohammad camp on February 26, days after the February 14 terrorist attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama. As the Indian Air Force engaged the Pakistani jets, the PAF shot down two Indian warplanes ─ one of which crashed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir ─ and captured an Indian pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan.

He said Pakistan acted responsibly after the Indian aggression in February and made honest efforts to deescalate tensions and added ceasefire violations along LoC saw a spike after Pulwama attack as Indian troops continued targeting civilian population of Pakistan, causing a large number of casualties. "A new mishap could be staged..." And its goal will be to justify India's offensive against Pakistan and to increase diplomatic pressure against Islamabad, he added.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi addresses a press conference in Multan on Sunday. "We want the worldwide community to take notice of this irresponsible behaviour and reprimand them [India] for taking this route", Qureshi said.

Pakistan warned Sunday that rival India is planning to launch a fresh military assault against the country, calling for the global community's urgent diplomatic intervention to deter New Delhi from endangering regional peace and stability.

"The worldwide community, given the sensitivity of this flashpoint, should not remain silent", he stated, adding that the global community should and would have to play their role in this regard. American defense officials have reportedly refuted India's assertions that its fighter jets had also downed a US -made Pakistani F-16 aircraft in the dogfight. The Pakistan People Party (PPP) accused the government of using war threat by India to hide its failures.

India would not immediately respond to the allegations. "Pakistan has been trying to resolve the matters with India", he said, while inviting India for a dialogue in the larger interest of both South Asian countries and the region.

India was also informed that it should expect a fitting response from Pakistan if the former resorts "to any aggression", the spokesperson revealed.
