President's comment about wind turbines causing cancer confuses Iowa's Chuck Grassley

Chuck Grassley - a champion of the wind energy tax credit - said President Donald Trump's comments that wind turbines cause cancer were "idiotic" in a call with reporters Wednesday.

Grassley also said the president isn't showing respect for him as he was instrumental in approving a federal tax credit 26 years ago that helped bring more wind energy development.

The president made that comment at the National Republican Congressional Committee's annual spring dinner Tuesday night.

If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations. Like many of Trump's most outrageous statements, this appeared to be just made up on the spot.

Anything else? Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) was reluctant to be as blatant as Grassley about addressing Pres. Trump's remarks on wind energy, even though there is no evidence that noise from wind turbines actually causes cancer.

'Yeah I hear the windmill blows the Cancer into you.' one Twitter user wrote.

A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request Wednesday for evidence to back up the president's claim.

Grassley has been a strong advocate for wind energy and recently introduced a bipartisan appeal for additional funding, signed by prominent Democrats like Sens.
