Murder of SC college student raises awareness for rideshare safety

Upon examining the Impala owned by Rowland (above), police observed a "large amount of liquid that we believed to be blood", according to Holbrook. "Samantha was by herself, she had absolutely no chance".

About 1:30 p.m. Friday: Columbia Police Department received a call from the student housing complex the Hub, on Main Street. They found the surveillance footage and released information on what Josephson had been wearing that night: black jeans, light shoes, orange top.

Throughout the day on Friday, Samantha's friends and family were unable to get in touch with her and an urgent search was launched.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Friday: Columbia Police Department tweeted a picture of Josephson and asked for the public's help locating her. Officers worked through the evening to find out what happened to Josephson before she got into the auto. She was waiting for that Uber ride to come, we believe. When a black vehicle pulls up to a parking spot, she takes several steps toward the auto, opens the back right door, and gets inside, the video shows.

It is with tremendous sadness and of a broken heart that I post this!

A Go Fund Me has been set up to help Samantha's family cover her funeral expenses.

Holbrook declined to elaborate on a motive or how Josephson died. The driver ran, but was arrested after a short chase, Holbrook said.

Gov. Henry McMaster said on Twitter Saturday that he's "devastated" about Josephson's death.

Part of what made the Ted Bundy case so fascinating was that the clean-cut serial killer simply didn't look the part. The screenplay is written by Michael Werwie and won the Nicholl Fellowship first prize.

She was found 40 feet off a dirt road in a wooded area in Clarendon County.

Josephson's abduction and the mystery surrounding her death has shocked the campus community she called home for four years and immediately spurred her friends, strangers and university officials to advocate for vigilance when using ride-sharing services.

Samantha's father in her hometown of Robinsville, New Jersey also confirmed her passing in a Facebook post. I will miss and love my baby girl for the rest of life.

Samantha's boyfriend, Greg Corbishley, said Sunday the final time he spoke to Samantha was via FaceTime on Thursday, when she told him, "I was her person, and she loved me and that she could truly be herself around me", Corbishley said. "She was one of the brightest young stars", McMaster wrote. I sit here and cry while looking at the picture and write this.

Police in SC say they've arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a college student.

USC was planning a Sunday evening vigil for Josephson on the field behind the school's main recreation center, according to WLTX-19 in SC.

Uber urges riders to check that the details of the driver and the auto match the information in the app, which provides the driver's name and photo, as well as the make and model of the vehicle and a license plate number.
