"The first time for him to be in a Formula 1 vehicle, in a red auto, Ferrari, it means a lot to the family and many fans to see the Schumacher name in a red vehicle", admitted Todt, who also manages Charles Leclerc.

"I felt good and there is so much potential in the auto with the speed through the corners and in traction it is hard to describe".

Schumacher, hoping to one day following his father into F1, is set to drive for Alfa Romeo during Wednesday's test session in the Gulf kingdom.

Despite the focus, the younger Schumacher appeared calm and was smiling when he arrived at the Ferrari garage and drove onto the track for the first time, watched by his mother, Corinna.

Five of his father's record seven F1 titles were won with Ferrari from 2000-04. "I would like to say thank you Ferrari for this incredible opportunity".

Schumacher was the only non-regular driver to undertake testing on Tuesday.

Schumacher will return to the track Wednesday to drive the Alfa Romeo C38, which has scored two points finishes in two races this season in the hands of Kimi Räikkönen.

Mick was with his dad when he suffered the heartbreaking skiing crash and hit his head on a rock in December (took out comma) 2013.

Samantha's father in her hometown of Robinsville , New Jersey also confirmed her passing in a Facebook post. Officers worked through the evening to find out what happened to Josephson before she got into the auto .

Mick Schumacher is a member of Ferrari's driver academy and won the F3 championship last season.

Schumacher has already completed an installation lap in Ferrari's SF90 in Bahrain, where McLaren returnee Alonso and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton were several laps into their programmes with the first half-hour gone.

"It was attractive to make those first laps and to see all those guys working on the auto and working with me".

However, Max Verstappen, who had finished fourth in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix, lowered the mark to 1min 29.379secs during the closing stages, running on C5 tyres.

Schumacher admits that the F1 tests are important.

Although no stranger to testing himself, Alonso was back in an F1 auto for the first time in five months with McLaren to test tyres and assess their promising 2019 vehicle.

"This will be the next step in the right direction", he said. "I think the vehicle has more grip, is less draggy on the straights, and the engine is a bigger step better as well".

It is the first serious F1 experience for the reigning European Formula 3 champion and Formula 2 rookie, who drove his father's title-winning 1994 Benetton at Spa in a short demonstration two years ago.
