Prosecutor Who Dropped Charges Against Jussie Smollett Thinks Actor Is Guilty

When pressed about whether there was any evidence to back up their claims, she said they were asked to "do this favor".

Smollett performed two days of community service this week and was forced to forfeit a $10,000 bond, a fraction of the more than $150,000 it reportedly cost the city to pursue this case.

Emanuel described it as a "whitewash of justice" that sends a message that people with power and influence are held to a different standard. He said his faith and community would not make him want to commit these alleged crimes. While authorities were careful to say that he was "not exonerated", and several high-profile figures spoke out about the injustice of the situation, Smollett has continued to proclaim his innocence.

Smollett was charged with 16 counts related to making a false report that he had been assaulted.

Still angered by the prosecutor's decision, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel on Wednesday questioned whether Smollett received preferential treatment.

Foxx - who later recused herself from Smollett's case due to her contact with the family - took the concerns to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. It's unclear how the show will move forward now that all charges against Smollett have been dropped. The case was handed to First Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Magats.

Casey leads Johnson by one
It was the first time since this event joined the PGA Tour schedule in 2000 that the victor was over par in the final round. As Casey seeks the tournament and his own first back-to-back success, Johnson is looking for a second win in three starts.

Although the charges against Smollett were dropped, Foxx said in an interview with CNN affiliate WLS that she had confidence that her office could have proved him guilty. He added that Smollett "almost started a race war" in America, which corroborated his unfounded claim the Obamas tried the same during his time in the White House.

Smollett has maintained that he's innocent. But President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice aren't done with the "outrageous" case.

The Empire star had been accused of arranging a fake racist and homophobic attack on himself in Chicago in January. "Mr. Smollett being in a position of power over them - him being this celebrity person who could pull strings for them and help them in their career", Schmidt said. But she said Smollett had no idea who attacked him until the brothers were later identified by police.

Fox Television, which produces "Empire", issued a one-sentence statement late Tuesday saying only that the company was "gratified" that the charges had been dropped. They abandoned the criminal case after only five weeks.

"This has been an incredibly hard time - honestly one of the worst of my entire life, but I am a man of faith and I am a man that has knowledge of my history and I would not bring my family, our lives or the movement through a fire like this. This decision appears to be utterly arbitrary, capricious and suspicious".
