Jayme Closs kidnapper Jake Patterson pleads guilty to killing her parents

Jayme Closs' accused abductor pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping charges on Wednesday, almost three months after he was arrested for holding the 13-year-old girl captive for 88 days in his remote Wisconsin cabin and killing her parents.

In a letter sent earlier this month to a Minneapolis TV station, he said he didn't want the Closs family "to worry about a trial". His attorneys and prosecutors have not commented ahead of Wednesday's arraignment.

On Oct. 15, Patterson busted down the front door of the Closs family home in Barron and killed her parents James and Denise Closs before forcefully taking Jayme. Jayme was held for 88 days before escaping in January.

Jake Patterson pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of intentional homicide and one count of kidnapping.

Patterson faces life in prison for the homicide counts.

Jake Thomas Patterson confessed to kidnapping 13-year-old Jayme Closs and murdering her parents.

Patterson told authorities that he decided "to take" Jayme Closs after seeing her getting on a school bus near her home, a criminal complaint says.

If Patterson follows through with his claim to plead guilty, there would be no trial and a sentencing date would be scheduled.

The vote, called by Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell , was a resounding 57-0 against, with 43 Democrats voting " present ". Tuesday's vote to begin debate on the nonbinding resolution was likely to fail as Democrats planned to vote " present ".

"We are satisfied that this is free, knowing and voluntary", Patterson's attorney Richard Jones said. He wept as he entered a plea to each count, with his lawyer leaning over to comfort him.

Patterson shot Jayme's father as he entered the house, then found Jayme and her mother. He also turned up the radio so visitors couldn't hear her, according to the complaint. He then allegedly murdered Denise Closs and took off with Jayme, according to the criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime.

The complaint states Patterson forced her to stay under a bed for hours at a time.

Authorities searched for Jayme for months and collected more than 3500 tips.

On March 27, Patterson made good on his promise and tearfully plead guilty to the murders of Closs' parents and her 88 day abduction. Jayme reportedly approached a resident who was walking their dog and provided a description of the auto she fled from, leading to Jake Thomas Patterson's arrest. On January 10, Jayme escaped from the cabin while Patterson was away. Patterson was arrested a short time later as he returned to the area.

"Jayme and her family wish to extend their deepest gratitude for the incredible gifts and generous donations that she has received from all over the country and around the world", reads the statement.

Tamburino does not believe a change of venue is needed, nor is there sufficient evidence for Patterson to plead not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
