Avocados recalled because of listeria risk

CALIFORNIA-A voluntary avocado recall has been issued in 6 states including California due to a possible listeria contamination.

You can identify the avocados by the "Bravocado" sticker.

The recall impacts "Henry Avocados" sold in bulk at stores in Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. It said there are no reported illnesses associated with this recall.

Henry Avocado reports environmental samples taken during a routine inspection at its California facility tested positive for listeria.

Customers are instructed not to consume recalled avocados, but to instead throw them away or return them to the point of purchase to receive a refund. "Retailers can identify Henry Avocado organic products by the bar code on the stickers", the company said.

Avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not subject to the recall. Some of the symptoms that can occur with the infection include fever, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Henry Avocado is also encouraging consumers to call them with any questions at (760) 745-6632, Ext 132.

The recall includes both conventional and organic avocados grown and packaged in California.
