President Trump is still attacking the late John McCain

Cindy McCain, John McCain's widow, and her daughter Meghan have taken the lead in defending the senator's legacy against Trump's jabs.

A spokeswoman for Meghan McCain said she was not immediately available for further comment.

Georgian Senator Johnny Isakson called Trump's comments "deplorable", adding that he does not care "if he's the president of the United States, owns all the real estate in NY or is building the greatest immigration system in the world".

The 27-year-old, in her tweets, confirmed Trump wasn't invited to McCain's funeral in August, as was widely rumored at the time.

This week, Trump unloaded a new series of anti-McCain tweets in which he said he never had been "a fan" and never would be. When I saw the text for this video I thought to myself "surely our president can not be upset that a dead man did not thank him for the funeral he put on for the dead man", but alas, here we are-with that unreality well within our realm of possibility.

Mr. Trump, during a speech to workers at an Army tank plant in OH, took a detour in his remarks to blame the press for picking at years of scar tissue between the two men which has lasted even beyond McCain's death in August.

Ferrechio noted the "big back story" has shown that Trump and McCain have "not liked each other for a long time", highlighting traded jabs during the 2016 election and McCain's involvement in the Steele dossier that helped catapult the Russian Federation investigation.

McCain also encouraged viewers to "take this terrible moment and do something positive" by donating to organizations that support veterans.

McConnell called McCain "a rare patriot and genuine American hero in the Senate".

Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, the GOP's 2012 presidential nominee whom Trump briefly considered nominating as secretary of state, tweeted praise for McCain on Tuesday _ and criticism of Trump.
