Trump nominates former Delta executive to run Federal Aviation Administration

Trump nominates former Delta executive to run Federal Aviation Administration

John Hamilton, formerly both vice president and chief engineer in Boeing's Commercial Airplanes division, will focus exclusively on the role of chief engineer, the unit's Chief Executive Officer Kevin McAllister told employees on Tuesday in an email seen by Reuters.

While Dickson's name had reportedly been under consideration since November, Trump allowed the FAA to go without an official head for over a year following the end of Obama-era agency chief Michael Huerta's term. The agency has been led by an acting administrator since January 2018.

"We will fully cooperate in the review in the Department of Transportation's audit", Boeing spokesman Charles Bickers said in an email.

Concern over the plane's safety caused aviation authorities worldwide to ground the model.

Dickson couldn't immediately be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) called Chao's request "inadequate and incomplete".

In his own letter to the inspector general, Blumenthal said the watchdog should examine whether problems with the plane were missed because Boeing employees did some safety-certification work on FAA's behalf. The FAA is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

One of the country's largest travel agents says the decision to suspend Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in and out of New Zealand will potentially inconvenience thousands of customers.

Dickson, who must be confirmed by the Senate, previously served as an airline captain and senior vice president for flight operations at Delta Air Lines. He was also an Air Force pilot.

A Lion Air Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed off the coast of Indonesia last October, and an Ethiopian Airlines Max 8 crashed this month near Addis Ababa.

Boeing began working on an upgrade to software behind the flight-control system shortly after the Lion Air crash.

Muilenburg said the software update and pilot training revision "will address the MCAS flight control law's behavior in response to erroneous sensor inputs".

Some pilots were furious that they were not told about the new software when the plane was unveiled. The FAA earlier required design changes to the flight-control system "no later than April".

The Justice Department's criminal division is looking into the Boeing 737 Max 8, though the parameters of that inquiry remain unclear.

It was the second Boeing 737 Max 8 to meet such a fate in under six months, and investigators have pointed to "clear similarities" between this crash and the Lion Air Flight 610 disaster in October, which killed 189 people. None of the documentation for the Max aircraft included an explanation, the union leaders said. The company has taken more than 5,000 orders and delivered more than 250 Max jets previous year.

"Boeing continues to have full confidence in the safety of the 737 MAX".

Randall Cobb, Cowboys agree to deal bringing former Packers WR to Dallas
Cobb joins wide receiver Tavon Austin and tight end Jason Witten as the newest offensive additions to the team. As the 2018 season wore on, Cobb seemed resigned to the fact he'd be leaving the Packers after the year.
