The new Kindle is Amazon's cheapest ever ereader with a front light

The new Kindle is Amazon's cheapest ever ereader with a front light

Amazon on Wednesday rolled out an updated version of its Kindle e-reader, giving the entry-level version of the tablet a small price bump and adding a front light to it - making this the first Kindle with a front light you can get your hands on for less than $100.

"Customers consistently tell us how much they appreciate having a front light on Kindle devices so they can read in any environment-from a sunny patio to their bed at night", said Kevin Keith, Vice President, Amazon Devices, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada. Called the Kindle (10th Gen), this device has a 6-inch display with a built-in front light.

"The team worked hard to bring this customer-favorite feature to our most affordable device". In turn, the entry-level new Kindle comes with a lower-resolution 6-inch 167 ppi display surrounded by massive bezels that stick out in a not-very-elegant way and no protection against liquid damage. It's an wonderful feature, ideal for camping, hotel sharing - anywhere you want to read without disturbing other people. The device does cost $89.99 now, which is $10 more than before.

The company has announced that it will start shipping the device on April 10.

The refreshed Kindle ships in black or white. Amazon says that if you're a previous Kindle owner, you can trade in your device to receive an Amazon.com gift card for the appraised value as well as a 25% discount on a new device, including the all-new Kindle.

These new software features will be delivered as a free update to the all-new Kindle, Kindle Oasis, and Kindle Paperwhites released in 2013 or later in the coming months.
