Errol Spence Pummels Mikey Garcia In Defense Of His Welterweight Title

Most people in boxing know how good Errol Spence is but tonight he really put it on display on the big stage against a fellow pound for pound undefeated star in Mikey Garcia. "He didn't want to let me get hit more, but I told him I was fine and I tried to go out there and pull it off", Garcia said. "When it comes to timing, speed, reflexes and defense, you name it, I'm better".

A four-division world champion, Garcia believed he had built enough of a resume to make the radical leap from lightweight champion to challenge Spence. Garcia (39-1) attempted to thwart Spence's height and reach advantage by pressing the action and keeping the fight at short range. He landed just 75 of 406 shots (18 percent) and connected with double-digit punches only in the fifth round, when he was credited with landing 10.

The opportunity to face a fighter the caliber of Garcia is what excites Spence the most. "I went 12 rounds with the best welterweight". "I'm proud of what I was able to do". "I will probably go back to lighter divisions but we'll have to think about it". "I hope he keeps that same energy inside of the ring".

The peculiarity of this fight is that both fighters are in the top ten of P4P.

In New Zealand , the bodies of some of the victims of the Christchurch mosque attacks have been handed over to their families. Aya Al-Umari, whose older brother Hussien Al-Umari died at the Al Noor mosque , wept as she talked about a kind man.

The UFC President is a huge Garcia fan and chose to bet on him to beat the undefeated fighter.

"This is a dream come true fighting in my hometown at AT&T Stadium". He also has enough pop, having won a world title past year at 140 pounds by dropping Sergey Lipinets, to keep Spence honest in the early going. Spence stopped previously undefeated challenger Carlos Ocampo with a first-round knockout at the National Football League team's practice facility in Frisco, not far from his home in Desoto. And the risk did not play in his favor, as Errol Spence confidently won over his opponent. Pacquiao won two title bouts at the Cowboys stadium in 2010, when he beat Joshua Clottey for the WBO welterweight crown and later Antonio Margarito for vacant WBO super welterweight title.

Mikey Garcia, left, takes a blow to the head from Errol Spence Jr. during the 10th round of the IBF welterweight championship boxing bout Saturday, March 16, 2019, in Arlington, Texas. Garcia began bleeding from his nose in round eight, at which point Spence increased his output and landed 35, 29, 34 and 25 punches in rounds nine through 12 respectively, according to CompuBox.

"Yes, why not?" said Pacquiao, when asked about facing Spence next.
