Super Worm Moon: Final Supermoon Of 2019 Arrives With Spring

And the opportunity to watch a Full Moon rise when the equinox makes this Super Worm Equinox Moon particularly special.

The March full moon is also known as a "full sap moon" - a reference to the time of year when sap starts to flow from maple trees. In this case, the ground began to soften in March so that earthworms could appear, drawing more birds to feed, according to the Farmer's Almanac.

The third and final supermoon of 2019 will premier in the night sky March 20th - only four hours after the spring equinox, marking the first time these astronomical events have occurred on the same day since March 1981.

A Super moon happens when the full moon occurs when it is closest to the earth in its orbit around it.

Although a supermoon does not appear bigger than an average moon to the human eye - except when it looms near the horizon - it does tend to appear brighter.

Spring begins this Wednesday at 2:58 p.m. PDT. The asteroid, 2019 EA2, will zip by Earth at 190,246 miles away - closer than the moon. In fact, it can appear as much as 30 percent brighter than normal. Supermoons occur when the moon is full or almost full and also at its closest point to Earth along its slightly elliptical orbit, according to NASA.

In Denver, the moon will rise at 6:59 p.m., 12 minutes before sunset.

The super worm moon will be visible to those located in the Northern Hemisphere on Wednesday night, according to National Geographic.

Temperatures will start to cool down Wednesday and continue the downward trajectory Thursday and Friday, though it's expected to remain sunny and clear.
