Angels, Trout near $430M extension

Angels, Trout near $430M extension

So much for the Angels balking at record-breaking Mike Trout contract numbers earlier this month.

The Angels got to that point Tuesday, reaching agreement with Trout on a reported 10-year, $360 million extension.

The Angels will nullify that possibility by ripping up the final two seasons of his six-year, $144.5 million deal and replace it with the new 12-year deal through the 2030 season, sources told ESPN. Trout was set to become a free agent following the 2020 season.

Of course, fellow pro athletes chimed in, as did the general sports Twitter population, following the reports.

Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout has been offered the largest deal in North American sports history.

Trout's deal with Los Angeles also will blow past the 10-year, $300 million contract Manny Machado signed with the San Diego Padres and the eight-year, $260 million extension Nolan Arenado signed with the Colorado Rockies.

Wendy Williams reveals she is living in ‘sober house’
In the past, Williams has described herself as a "functioning addict" during her early radio career in New York City. She added that her husband Kevin Hunter was the only person who knew she was seeking treatment .

Trout, 27, is a two-time American League MVP and had 39 home runs, 79 RBIs and a 1.088 OPS in 140 games last season.

So, the first A-Rod deal is actually worth more on a per-year basis than Trout's if you factor in inflation from the signing of the deal, and the second is worth less.

Trout is a career 307 hitter and has averaged a +9 WAR in every full season that he has played.

Speaking with John Marks and Ike Reese on SportsRadio 94WIP, Harper gave his most direct comments on his plasn to recruit Trout to the Phillies.

Trout, a native of Vineland, N.J., grew up a diehard Phillies fan and some thought he would join Harper in Philadelphia.

After joining the Angels as the 25th pick in the 2009 draft, Trout blitzed through their farm system and debuted at 19 years old during the 2011 season. Trout has already earned two MVP awards, a Rookie of the Year award, six Silver Sluggers, and seven All-Star selections.
