Zinedine Zidane: Returning Real Madrid manager 'counting' on Gareth Bale

Zinedine Zidane's second spell in charge of Real Madrid begins in earnest on Saturday, and the Frenchman has included both Isco and Marcelo in the first matchday squad of the new era.

Zidane was brought back after Real's season pretty much ended following their 4-1 humiliation by Ajax in the Champions League. Bale was left out of the starting line-up for that match before coming on and scoring twice, including a spectacular overhead kick.

Zidane had a strained relationship with Bale during his previous tenure and, according to BBC Sport's Guillem Balague, "does not want to work" with the Wales forward.

"He will talk with Mr Zidane, take it from there and then see at the end of the season".

"No, because I am not going to talk abouit a player who is not mine".

"Now he has a new project, he can start afresh and prove to everyone how talented he is, so I wish him all the best".

"I saw a good, happy Gareth Bale, even if there has been some problems on the pitch", Poyet told The Debate on Sky Sports.

Bale has been booed by home supporters this season, although his agent has insisted the 29-year-old wants to "play all his career" at the club. However, he said he did not have any issue with Zidane being hired.

Asked whether he would like to coach France worldwide Mbappe at some point, Zidane said: "Like with all good players, I would love to".

"I never talked about whether I would want to return to the position and I think, in my opinion, this is a flawless solution".

I'm going to end up repeating myself a lot.

During his comeback presentation Zidane revealed he is already looking ahead for next season and said changes are necessary.
