‘Sopranos’ Prequel Gets Fall 2020 Release and Working Title ‘Newark’

He directed nine episodes of "The Sopranos" throughout its lifespan, in addition to seven episodes of "Game of Thrones", as well as feature films "Thor: The Dark World" and "Terminator Genisys".

To better prepare for his role as young Tony Soprano in the upcoming Sopranos prequel movie Newark, Michael Gandolfini went back to the place where it all ended: the iconic booth at the Bloomfield, New Jersey, diner Holsten's that was the setting for The Sopranos' enigmatic final scene.

Nivola will play young Dickie Moltisanti, the late father of Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli) and cousin of Carmela Soprano. (Robert Iler) after an investigation was launched into his ties with the mafia.

The cast will also include Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, and John Magaro.

What we know: Newark is set in the era of the Newark riots in the '60s, when African Americans and Italian Americans in the city were at each other's throats. It ran for six seasons before ending in 2007.

For the whole run-up to the "Sopranos" prequel film so far, casting news has been associated with one title, "The Many Saints of Newark".

Long-time Sopranos alum Alan Taylor will be directing the 60s-set The Many Saints of Newark, which was written by original creator David Chase along with Lawrence Konner.
