Man United face Barcelona in UCL as Liverpool draw FC Porto

Jurgen Klopp is determined to keep Liverpool's Premier League title-chasing team together, instead of splashing the cash.

The 51-year-old German was the top flight's biggest spender last summer when recruiting Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keïta and Xherdan Shaqiri for about £170 million.

"I bet you all of the other seven teams in the draw were saying don't get Liverpool, we don't want Liverpool".

Pep Guardiola's side are now top of the Premier League and also in the quarter-final of both the FA Cup and Champions League.

"And that was maybe the main problem at Liverpool for the last decade". Ronaldo has been the key signing for Massimiliano Allegri's team, injecting belief in Turin that they can go all the way this time.

Manchester City have been handed the challenge of overcoming English opposition in the quarterfinals for the second successive season, and they will be determined to ensure that Spurs do not inflict the same damage that Liverpool did a year ago.

"It is massive [potential for growth]", said Klopp.

Former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce added: "I think Liverpool have gone as favourites now for the competition, being that side of the draw".

"I could not be further away from thinking it's the best draw because it isn't - it is just the draw, it's the opponent we have to prepare for and that's all we will be thinking about from when we start preparing for the game".

Manchester City won both of their Premier League ties with Tottenham last season and also beat Mauricio Pochettino's side at Wembley earlier in this campaign. When you think about how Bayern faced us here, I saw Bayern playing a lot of times in the last years but I never saw them being that defensive-orientated.

"We have a specialist for Porto in our own team in Pep Lijnders being there in the past - and he always speaks with so much respect for that club".

Virgil van Dijk is in majestic form at the back for Liverpool, with Sadio Mane taking his hot streak to 10 goals in 10 games during the round of 16 second leg win against Bayern Munich.
