James Harden: Rockets star makes ‘aggressive’ Steph Curry claim after Warriors loss

Even without the two-time Finals MVP, who missed the game with an ankle injury, the Golden State Warriors picked up a big win on the road on Thursday (AEDT), beating the Houston Rockets by a final score of 106-104.

Klay Thomson fired half of his 30 points from beyond the arc and grabbed 6 rebounds to lead the Warriors, who played minus injured star Kevin Durant. Stephen Curry added 24 points for the Warriors, while the Rockets were paced by James Harden's 29 and Chris Paul's 24.

Cousins recorded a season-high 27 points and added seven assists to help the Warriors end Houston's nine-game winning streak.

Right from Andrew Bogut to Kevon Looney, through David Lee, Festus Ezeli, Mo Speights, David West, Zaza Pachulia, Jordan Bell and Damian Jones, none of the centers on the Warriors teams, were the right fit for the way the team played. The two-time defending champions hold the best record in the Western Conference and now sit in the coveted #1 seed in the playoffs. The Rockets sit just 3.5 games back of the Warriors in the Western conference standings with the Nuggets one game back of the top spot. He just played probably the most complete game he's played since he's been here.

DeMarcus Cousins has had a slow return to form with the Warriors team, but on Wednesday night he showed what the Warriors can do in the post season if their 5 all-star starters remain healthy and engaged. "When it comes to smaller guards, I think I can guard them better than anyone in the league".

"Klay [Thompson], Steph [Curry] and DeMarcus [Cousins] were going to be aggressive just because KD [Kevin Durant] was out", Harden said.

Kansas City Chiefs Release Safety Eric Berry
The five-time Pro Bowl safety would have been guaranteed $7.25 million of his salary if he was on the roster Friday. He was also given a huge extension with the Chiefs in 2017, but a torn Achilles shut that season quickly.

After being blamed by both fans and media for the Warriors' recent woes, Cousins - who declined to speak to reporters over the past few days - brushed off the criticism postgame, acknowledging that he appreciated his teammates publicly defending him. "But having said that, with all the stuff we've gone through and all the ups and downs, and starting from 11-14 to whatever we are after that, we're in a good spot and we still have a chance to legitimately make a run for the first spot".

In brief the Rockets opened at 7-2 odds to win the 2019 NBA Championship, second to the Warriors 5-4 odds last June. We're all learning, me too. I thought he did a phenomenal job just getting down on the block and controlling the game down there.

Eric Gordon was asked if he believes the Warriors see the Rockets as their foremost challenger. "This was a good night". "We're a lot smaller than previous year - we're a different team - but we match up well with them". On Sunday night the Suns went into Oracle Arena and defeated Golden State for the first time since a 107-95 victory on November 9, 2014.

The Rockets were outrebounded by Golden State 44-31.

He isn't the best rebounding Center in the league but he isn't one to be bullied around the post either.
