Ranked Djokovic and Osaka crash out of Indian Wells

Kyrgios, who beat Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev to win last week's Mexico Open, was expected to meet top seed Novak Djokovic in a mouth-watering third-round clash.

Djokovic broke his racquet in anger after Kohlschreiber - who had lost his past seven matches against the 31-year-old - took the first set.

"I think I put out a pretty good strategy on the court", Kohlschreiber said, "very clever serve, good return game".

Kohlschreiber posted his first victory over a top-ranked player, advancing to a fourth-round where he will face France's Gael Monfils.

Kohlschreiber notched his first ever victory over a number one-ranked player, ending Djokovic's bid for a sixth Indian Wells crown.

Coming into the match, Kohlschreiber had only beaten Djokovic once in his nine matches against each other.

Five-time champion Djokovic suffered a shock 6-4 6-4 defeat against the German in California, the top seed unable to see off Kohlschreiber when they resumed after a rain delay on Monday.

But in a match that resumed after rain stopped play following completion of just one game on Monday night, Kohlschreiber looked crisp and confident, breaking the Serbian star for a 4-3 lead in the first and pocketing the set with a service victor on his second set point.

No tariffs for Irish goods entering NI in no-deal Brexit
MPs rejected the EU Withdrawal Agreement by an overwhelming majority - 391 voted against the deal compared to 242 in favour. Under the plan, exporting directly from the RoI to Great Britain means firms will face tariffs on their agricultural goods.

Williams will fight for a semi-final berth against eighth-seeded Angelique Kerber, who beat ninth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. I congratulate him for playing tactically really well and getting me out of my comfort zone.

"It's a very special win today", Kohlschreiber said.

"Today, with Novak being number one, top-seeded here, it's a very incredible win for me".

Former world number ones Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza made it into the quarter-finals.

Kohlschreiber's only prior win over Djokovic came back in 2009, a three-set victory at Roland Garros.

Djokovic and Fognini then failed to serve out for the opener as Rojer and Tecau won the 10th game on a deciding point to make it all tied at 5-5.

Nevertheless, Djokovic thought he was poised for a deeper run, something he will now try to achieve in doubles alongside Italian playing partner Fabio Fognini. "So these are the rare occasions where I could potentially do well", Djokovic said.

Bianca Andreescu, an 18-year-old Canadian, beat 18th-seeded Wang Qiang 7-5, 6-2.
