Patriots, Steelers interested in signing Golden Tate

"Certainly has a lot of interest", Rapoport said of Tate during a Thursday appearance on NFL Network.

The New York Giants have reportedly signed WR Golden Tate to a four-year deal worth $37.5 million, which includes $23 million in guarantees.

It looks like Big Blue has begun the process to find their replacement (s) for star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Twenty sixteen second-round pick Sterling Shepard is a reliable target, but not a top receiver by any means.

Tate caught 90-plus passes in four straight seasons for the Lions and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2014.

Tate's five-year, $31 million deal would go down as one of the best moves in Martin Mayhew's tenure as general manager. Tate will probably catch a decent number of passes in 2019, but will he actually make the team better? And if you combine his work with the Lions and Eagles this past year, those team's quarterbacks took aim at the nine-year wide receiver a combined 113 times. He's posted just 19.5 sacks in that span, but six of those came last season in a career year for the 29-year-old. He acknowledged that he was underpaid and wanted to do something about it.

The Lions chose to find a more cost-effective slot receiver this offseason, signing Danny Amendola for a one-year deal worth at least $4.5 million.

Tate's production dropped dramatically past year after a midseason trade from the Lions to the Eagles, where he averaged just 9.2 yards per reception and 34.2 yards per game.
