Lilly Singh becomes first YouTuber to host U.S. talk show

NBC has hired YouTube star Lilly Singh to take over the late-night spot now occupied by Carson Daly.

Singh will announce her new gig on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight (see preview clip above).

When asked what she envisioned the show to be like, Singh said, "Kind of like my YouTube channel, but just, you know, now I have more than three staff members".

The new show, which launches in September, will make her the only woman to host a late-night talk show on a major network, the only woman of colour on late-night television, and the only LGBT+ person.

NBC is going outside the box with its new late-night star. "I'm so excited because I truly get to create a show from scratch", she gushed on Thursday's show.

Like Last Call, A Little Late will be a half-hour program with Singh conducting in-studio interviews with a variety of guests. "But I do think it's a little awesome for an Indian-Canadian woman also to get a show".

Vietnam provided legal counsel to Huong, but has refrained from publicly lobbying for her release until today. Siti had been working as a masseuse in Kuala Lumpur , while Huong described herself as an entertainer.

At the moment, there are no female late-night hosts on broadcast networks. "Now that is a dream come true", Singh said.

Now the 30-year old comedian, who is also known as Superwoman, is set to join the late night arena with her very own show on NBC: A Little Late With Lilly Singh. "I'm thrilled to bring it to life on NBC, and I hope my parents consider this to be as exciting as a grandchild".

Daly announced last month "Last Call" would be ending after 17 years to focus on his roles on NBC's "Today", "The Voice" and The Golf Channel, and to spend more time with his family.

Singh made her YouTube debut in 2010, posting comedic and inspirational. In 2017, Forbes listed her as one of the top 10 highest earning Youtubers, earning a reported $10.5 million. But now I'm fully embracing them as my superpowers ...

Her acting credits include HBO's movie Fahrenheit 451, Bad Moms and Ice Age: Collision Course.

Singh also is the author of the bestselling How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life.
