James Gunn rehired to direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'

James Gunn has certainly been on a roller coaster of a ride with Disney and his role on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

In the aftermath of Gunn's firing, Guardians of the Galaxy stars penned an open letter expressing their support for him.

James Gunn released a statement on Twitter following Disney's decision to rehire him as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn, who helped write the first two Guardians Of The Galaxy movies and was writing the script for the third film in the franchise, has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump's presidency, which irked a number of conservative commentators. It seems that Horn was convinced by Gunn's public apology and handling of the situation after the firing.

James Gunn was sacked past year in July by Disney after a few alt-right journalists made his old tweets public. Even though Gunn's tweets were years old and clearly jokes, however poor-taste, and were not about anyone real, Disney clearly felt it could not fire one and not the other, despite repeated calls to do so from Gunn supporters. Disney Studios president Alan Horn was persuaded by Gunn's public apology and his handling of the situation and chose to reverse course to reinstate him, according to Deadline. In the end, while this can not have been an enjoyable ride for James Gunn, he seems to have emerged stronger than ever: given the reins to two high-profile franchises, now a household name, and enjoying the goodwill of fans and peers. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be.

Gunn added a thank you to Disney and said he was excited to "continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all".

Gunn was let go in July 2018 after multiple offensive tweets resurfaced. "Love you to you all".

Gunnhas already signed on to direct the Suicide Squad sequel for DC and Warner Bros, so Marvel won't start production on GOTG 3 until he wraps that up. "My days saying something just because it's shocking and trying to get a reaction are over".
