‘It represents me!’ - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explains goal celebration

Rennes bid au revoir to their Europa League hopes after Arsenal eased past Julien Stephan's side 3-0 in the Europa League second leg round of 16 tie at the Emirates on Thursday evening.

The Gunners faced an uphill battle at the Emirates Stadium after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat in the first leg last week.

The late goal was the forward's second of the night, and it all but sealed Arsenal's place in the Europa League quarterfinals.

Arsenal made a superb start as we broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to tap home from close range after an Aaron Ramsey cross.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring in the fifth minute then crossed for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to level the tie on aggregate, the Gabon worldwide later scoring a second-half clincher.

Aubameyang had plenty of reason to celebrate.

Heck, if Messi had been playing for Lyon last night, the outcome of the tie itself probably would have been very different. Lyon coach Genesio added: "Tonight Messi was in Champions League mode".

After the win, Arsenal is through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and now sits in fourth place in Premier League standings, just one point behind Tottenham (61) for third.

"We said that if we were meant to go out, we'd go out with a big performance", Cech added.

The ill-tempered feel to the match continued throughout a nervy second half as a number of strong challenges went unpunished.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was a doubt before the game, has made it to the bench.

Aubameyang missed two big chances inside a minute to complete his first hat-trick in Arsenal colours, poking wide of the post with just Koubek to beat and then skewing wide of the same post once teed up by Ramsey in front of goal.
