Arsenal 3 Rennes 0 (4-3 agg): Aubameyang brace sends Gunners through

Arsenal made the ideal start after Maitland-Niles played the ball into Aaron Ramsey who squared for Aubameyang to slot home from close range to put the Gunners 1-0 ahead after only three minutes.

Only one side in Europa League knockout history had previously successfully overturned a 3-1 first-leg defeat - Fulham downing Serie A giants Juventus in 2009-10 - but Arsenal moved into the quarters, where they could face London rivals Chelsea.

"This comeback was very hard, but I think the reaction was very good from every player", Emery told reporters.

After the win, Arsenal is through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and now sits in fourth place in Premier League standings, just one point behind Tottenham (61) for third.

Following their 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, success in the Europa League appeared a little less urgent, and victory here marks a return to form under Emery.

"Playing under pressure is good, growing up under pressure - with each player playing like a team and feeling the hard moments to give us our best performance", Emery said.

Witnesses say as many as 300 people were inside the Christchurch mosque when a man wearing a military-style jacket opened fire. Police were hunting "an active shooter" after a gunman opened fire at a mosque inflicting several casualties.

"In the domestic league, like here, we have six teams playing to be in the top four".

"I said to the players today, I'm excited (about) this competition, but it's exciting not only for the possibility to go to the Champions League, but also because it's one title", he said.

"On the offside, it was very clearly an injustice, it was an error", he said.

For his side, the focus must always be simple.

He played the full 90 minutes of all three of Senegal's group matches in Russian Federation, with the African nation only eliminated because they'd accumulated more yellow cards than Japan.

The ill-tempered feel to the match continued throughout a nervy second half as a number of strong challenges went unpunished.
