Son’s ‘sad’ tweet boosts business for dad’s new doughnut shop

It gained more than a million combined likes and retweets, and even caught the eye of Twitter staff themselves, who tweeted about it from the site's own official account. By the end of the day and throughout the rest of the weekend, Billy's Donuts was jampacked with people waiting in a long line for their chance to greet the owner and purchase some of his delicious pastries.

Satharith By of Billy's Donuts went viral after his son Billy took a picture of him standing all alone during the shop's grand opening.

That's where the story - and Billy's dad's business - exploded.

Saturday, a son tweeted about his father's new donut shop and how his dad was very sad that no one was coming to buy donuts.

The donut shop's Instagram page now boasts over 59,000 followers and shows that, when it comes to sugary snacks at least, Twitter can unite briefly. I'm so glad to see the power of social media and its good impact to the real life.

Twitter user Billy took to social media to share a snap of his poor father, after nobody turned out for his big day. The restaurant holds a five-star Yelp rating, with customers praising the donuts, the kolaches, and the warmth of the owners. "You are all incredible", By tweeted, along with a photo of his no-longer-sad father.

Responses were immediate, and the post was retweeted about 306,000 times.

By later tweeted to thank people for their support. "This means so much to my family", he added.
