The JDS has been given Shimoga, Tumkur, Hasan, Mandya, Bengaluru North, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Vijayapura.

Congress also announced the names of Omwati Jatav (Nagina), Zafar Ali Naqvi (Kheri), Kaisar Jahan (Sitapur), Majari Rahi (Misrikh), Ramashankar Bhargava (Mohanlalganj), Sanjay Singh (Sultanpur), Ratna Singh (Partapgarh), Sriprakash Jaiswal (Kanpur), Rakesh Sachan (Fatehpur), Parvez Khan (Sant Kabir Nagar), Kush Saurabh (Bansgaon), Pankaj Sonkar (Lalganj), Lalitesh Pati Tripathi (Mirzapur) and Bhagwati Prasad Choudhary (Robertsganj) from Uttar Pradesh.

JD (S) had won Hassan and Mandya Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 general election.

Congress has sought to deflate the BJP's advantage over the clash with Pakistan, questioning the potency of the strikes. However in the bypolls, the BJP had yielded the Bellary seat to Congress.

One of the most interesting names in the list is that of former Congress MP Priya Dutt, who had earlier written to Congress president Rahul Gandhi against contesting elections.

Mysore-Kodagu was another constituency that JD (S) had demanded from the old Mysuru region, but could not bag it due to opposition from Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah as the seat is in his home turf, the sources said. Namdev Usendi will contest from Gadchiroli-Chimur seat.

The SP and the BSP have stitched together an alliance in Uttar Pradesh, keeping the Congress out, though the two parties decided not to field any candidates in Rae Bareli and Amethi, the traditional strongholds of the grand old party.

Mayawati's remarks came on a day when the highest policy-making body of the Congress - the Congress Working Committee (CWC) - met in Ahmedabad, led by party president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress and JD (S), which fought bitterly against each other during 2018 assembly polls, joined hands to form the government as the election threw up a hung verdict.

While Nikhil is son of Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, Prajwal is the son of Gowda's elder son and PWD Minister H D Revanna.

The sitting lawmaker from Mirzapur is Anupriya Patel, the chief of BJP ally Apna Dal.
