Beto O'Rourke heading to Iowa, fueling speculation about White House bid

With President Donald Trump's job approval mired in the low- to mid-40s, Republicans are starting to focus on ensuring he faces as weak a candidate as possible...

Aides to O'Rourke have continued to remain tight-lipped about the Democrat's future plans, but the upcoming travel is the clearest signal yet that a presidential candidacy is in the works.

"Supporting [Giddens] for state Senate is the way that we get Iowa - and by extension, this country - back on the right rack", O'Rourke said in a video posted to Twitter by Giddens. The new Beto O'Rourke documentary, "Running With Beto", ends with him musing about how to keep the momentum of his 2018 defeat in the Texas Senate race going.

A Des Moines Register/CNN Iowa poll released this weekend found that O'Rourke has dropped six percentage points from the first Iowa poll that was released in December.

O'Rourke's trip to Iowa will mark his first visit to the first-in-the-nation caucus state, and suggests the Texas Democrat is on the cusp of mounting a presidential bid.

Ingram, also 29, is a two-time All-Pro who put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in New Orleans in 2016 and 2017. He started 19 of 34 games, including two playoff games, since signing as a free agent two years ago.

O'Rourke's video for Giddens focuses on getting out the vote among students at the University of Northern Iowa. "It's the exact kind of campaign that America needs right now, and it's why so many of us are hoping that Beto has chose to launch a campaign for President of the United States".

"Beto O'Rourke has long sold Democrats a bill of goods, pretending to be a liberal superstar while exploiting his father-in-law's connections to climb the political ladder".

In a statement to CNN and other news outlets last month, O'Rourke said, "Amy and I have made a decision about how we can best serve our country".

O'Rourke is not the only 2020 contender slated to drum up enthusiasm for Giddens, who is running against former GOP state Rep. Walt Rogers. Speculation grew that he would run for president after he was narrowly defeated by Sen.

O'Rourke, who reportedly has ruled out challenging Sen. The former Texas congressman is expected to visit the Hawkeye State on Saturday to participate in a get-out-the-vote event.
