Collins to Redskins for 6 years, $84M

The former 2015 second-round pick will sign a six-year deal with Washington worth $84 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Saquon Barkley catches a checkdown from Eli Manning in the right flat ... and is leveled by Redskins box safety Landon Collins.

Many were hoping the Colts would be able to bring Collins in given their massive need at safety, but with the reported six-year, $84 million deal he is expected to sign, it makes plenty of sense why he isn't going to the Colts.

Collins became an unrestricted free agent when the New York Giants opted last week not to keep him under the franchise tag designation, which now appears to have opened the door for a much larger financial payoff.

Getting Collins fills one of Washington's biggest needs on a defense that ranked 17th in the league last season. Norman signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Redskins in 2016 when Gettleman, then the Carolina Panthers GM, made a decision to remove the franchise tag from him.

Man arrested for choking driver who wouldn't stop singing Christmas carols
A passenger was arrested last week after allegedly choking a driver whom he complained to about singing Christmas songs in March. According to police, Clayton Lucas was getting his Scrooge on when he tried to strangle his Christmas song loving driver.

Collins has idolized Sean Taylor, the late, outstanding Washington safety, almost his entire life and wore No. 21 with the Giants in homage.

Defensive coordinator James Bettcher used Collins primarily near the line of scrimmage this past season.

In other words, the Redskins won't be looking to add more safeties in free agency.

Collins recorded at least 96 tackles in each of his four seasons, including a career-high 125 along wth 13 passes defended and four sacks during a breakout 2016 when he was named All-Pro.
