Calling all wizards! Pre-register now for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Over a year since it was announced in November 2017, Warner Bros has lifted the lid on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, a hotly anticipated new augmented reality game for smartphones due out later this year. At least, if you're an Android user, where you can pre-register for the game right now on Google Play. iOS users, meanwhile, will need to sit tight and wait for more information.

The story will focus on the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, with your job being to hunt out and capture rogue creatures, people and objects that have escaped from the wizarding world.

These "Foundables" will appear on the map as you walk around - expect to find a fair few in parks, museums, monuments, galleries and other public spaces. While today's reveal and pre-registration listing could signal that we are inching closer to the actual release, I have no doubt that Niantic will tease a few more details before then to whip fans into a frenzy. You can also track down potions that unlock different things in the game.

Spells used by players will cost Spell Energy, which players can replenish at "Inns found at Muggle locations around the world", the website reads.

Trump to seek another 8.6 billion US dollars for border wall
The government shutdown for 35 days beginning in December after Congress and the White House deadlocked on funding for the wall. The budget imposes work requirements for those receiving food stamps and other government aid as part of the cutbacks.

Overall, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite sounds much more like the fully-fledged MMORPG that Niantic hoped Ingress would be (although it never quite got the "massively" part of the equation) and less like the massively played collectathon that was Pokemon GO (which never quite got the "multiplayer" bit down during its initially massive popularity spike). These host real-time multiplayer battles against risky enemies called Wizarding Challenges.

According to the news post, players will be able to locate Foundables in the real world, cast spells, and can choose between several different "Professions" such as "Aurors, Magizoologists, and Professors".

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will launch in 2019 - the exact time frame has not been confirmed.

It's made by Niantic, the company behind Pokemon Go. You won't want to face these threats alone-gather your friends to take on threats of even higher levels and recover rarer magical Foundables from within the Fortress walls. According to Niantic, players will "step into a full 360-degree Advanced AR immersive experience in places like Ollivander's Wand Shop".
