R Kelly released from jail after $161,000 child support bill is paid

The performer, 52, was arrested on Wednesday over the unpaid support for three children he has with Andrea Lee.

The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer was previously jailed on February 22 after he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse and held on $1 million bond. "He paid the child support year after year [before that]".

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was released on bail after spending three nights in jail.

Singer R. Kelly, center, walks with his attorney Steve Greenberg, right, and an unidentified man who gave him a ride after being released from Cook County Jail, March 9, 2019, in Chicago.

"I sit here and say this: I had two cases back then that I said in the beginning of the interview that I would not talk about because of my ongoing case now", the singer explained.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said: "We've received information from Chicago Police Department of a victim who made allegation of a criminal sexual conduct incident against R. Kelly". He came back into headlines following the explosive documentary series "Surviving R. Kelly" that aired in January.

Kelly walked out of the Cook County Jail just before noon wearing a red jacket over a grey hoodie, with the hood over his head. The hour-long special, titled The Gayle King Interview with R. Kelly, notably showcased an interview with the "Ignition - Remix" singer that featured him passionately defending himself against various accusations, including that he held women against their will.

In that case, Kelly was jailed on February 22 and released three days later after posting $100,000 bail. How can I take care of my kids? "This is not me", adding that he is "fighting for my f****** life".

Speaking outside the prison, Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, said he was "going to straighten all this stuff out".

Kelly has consistently denied any allegations of abuse of women or being sexually involved with underaged girls.

"[I did] lots of things wrong when it comes to women, but I apologized in those relationships", Kelly said.

His attorney and publicist told a similar story this week before and after the hearing in which the judge ordered Kelly into custody, with the publicist telling reporters that Kelly was prepared to pay $50 000 to $60 000 on Wednesday but was not able to pay the entire amount.

Bond was set at $1 million on those charges, but Kelly was unable to post the necessary $100,000 until after he spent a weekend in the jail. How can I take care of my kids? How?

Valencia Patrice Love, of Romeoville, has described herself as a friend of Kelly and a fan of his music. "Y'all killing me with this s-!"
