UNSC blacklists Osama bin Laden`s son

For Hamza, now believed to be around 30, his father initially anxious for his safety and thought to send him away for study, said Joscelyn.

Bin Laden, the department asserted, posted audio and video messages online back in 2015 asking his followers to join him to "launch an attack against the United States and its Western allies" in retaliation for his father's death at the hands of U.S. military forces in 2011.

Bin Laden had his citizenship removed on February 22 by royal decree, the Saudi newspaper said, quoting the kingdom's interior ministry.

As the leader of Al Qaeda, Osama organised deadly attacks against the U.S., including the 1998 bombings of the United States embassy in Kenya and Tanzania as well as an attack on USS Cole off the Yemen coast.

The kingdom similarly stripped Osama bin Laden's citizenship in 1994 while he was living in exile in Sudan when Hamza bin Laden was just a child.

The government says Hamza bin Laden "is emerging as a leader" of al-Qaida, posting videos on the Internet calling for attacks on the US and its western allies.

When asked about the last information about Hamza bin Laden, Evanoff said, "He is probably in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and probably could go to Iran".

According to the State Department, Hamza bin Laden is in his early thirties and married to the daughter of Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker in the September 11 terror attacks against the World Trade Center.

Hamza bin Laden was named a "specially designated global terrorist" in January 2017, according to a news release from the State Department.

Hamza bin Laden began appearing in militant videos and recordings in 2015 as an al-Qaida spokesman.

The US state department says he married the daughter of Mohammed Atta, who hijacked one of the four commercial aircraft used in the 2001 attacks, and crashed it into one of the World Trade Center towers in NY.

"If you think that your sinful crime that you committed in Abbottabad has passed without punishment, then you thought wrong", he said in his first audio recording.

In recent years, the Islamic State group, which began as al-Qaida in Iraq before breaking away from the terror group, has taken much of the worldwide attention.

Joscelyn at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies warned that al-Qaida remains a transnational threat, something that authorities may now pay more attention to as ISIS withers away in Syria.

A photograph circulated by the US State Department's Twitter account to announce a $1 million Dollars reward for al Qaeda key leader Hamza bin Laden, son of Osama bin Laden.

A United Nations report published previous year noted that Hamza bin Laden "continued to emerge as a leadership figure in al-Qaeda".

The State Department says that Hamza is an "emerging leader". Hamza "has called for followers of Al-Qaida to commit terror attacks" and "is seen as the most probable successor of [Ayman] al-Zawahiri", the United Nations said.
