Trump blames Cohen testimony for collapse of summit with Kim Jong

Trump said he walked away from his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because Kim demanded the USA lift all of its sanctions, a claim that North Korea's delegation called a rare news conference in the middle of the night to deny.

The White House aide said the issue was whether North Korea would accept what the president called "the big deal" - denuclearizing completely or something less, "which was unacceptable to us".

The Senator added he would continue to push for the "President to fully hold accountable those responsible" and to uphold United States laws.

"What he's trying to convey is that he that he's got a hard line to walk to negotiate with Kim Jong Un", Bolton said on "Fox News Sunday". "I think the obligation of the president of the United States is to defend and advance American national security interest".

The outcome in Hanoi fell far short of the pre-meeting expectations after critics said their initial historic meeting in Singapore - which produced only a vague commitment from Kim to work "toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula" - was more style over substance.

In return, Pyongyang was only offering to close a portion of the Yongbyon complex, a sprawling site covering multiple different facilities - and the North is believed to have other uranium enrichment plants.

"Look, North Korea murdered Otto", McCarthy said during an appearance on ABC's "This Week". "I think Kim knew what happened, which was wrong", McCarthy said.

Tapper asked if Bolton recommended a third summit with Kim without any assurances concessions would be made; he also said summits themselves can empower the leader for his propaganda efforts.

'And the sanctions are there and I didn't want to give up the sanctions unless we had a real program.

But some experts believe that Kim, by standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Trump at a summit that captivated many around the world, will have one sure win: He'll be able to portray himself to his people and supporters as the charismatic head of a nuclear-armed power, not an global pariah that starves its citizens so it can build nukes and missiles.

In 2017, Warmbier died after being detained for a year and a half in North Korea.

McCarthy was also asked Sunday about Trump's decision to order a top-secret security clearance for his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, despite objections from top White House aides and concerns from the Central Intelligence Agency.

Initially, Trump appeared on Fox News and told Sean Hannity that he and the dictator could not come to an agreement on what North Korea would have to do to ease sanctions.

"We have been respectful during this summit process".

Trump has since attempted to clarify his statement - tweeting that his comment was "misinterpreted" and, on Saturday, paying tribute to Warmbier during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland.

"Our objective is to have Juan Guaido become the interim president so that we can get new presidential elections". "Also, reducing tensions with North Korea at this time is a good thing!"

Opponents of scrapping the drills warn that it could affect the combat readiness of the combined US and South Korean forces and hand the North a strategic advantage on the divided peninsula.
