Seat unveils el-Born concept ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut

The el-Born will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Seat has also said the auto can be recharged in as little as 47-minutes when attached to a fast charger.

After testing through the WLTP cycle, the el-Born can go from 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds thanks to its 201bhp electric motor. The Seat el-Born was designed in Barcelona and will in future be produced at Volkswagen's electric auto plant in Zwickau.

There is no big radiator grille because there's no engine to cool - just a few air intakes to send cool air to the batteries.

Seat has unveiled its first all-electric vehicle, naming the concept after a region of Barcelona, where Seat is based.

"Mobility is evolving and with it, the cars we drive".

"2020 will be Seat's year of electrification", Seat CEO Luca De Meo said at the company's annual 2017 results presentation last March. A double layer spoiler at the rear also improves the car's aerodynamics to help reduce drag and improve range.

The el-Born demonstrates what Seat sees as the key technologies that are now driving change in the automotive industry - electrification, autonomous driving, shared-mobility and connectivity.

The interior of the auto appears near-production, and features a floating 10-inch infotainment touchscreen angled towards the driver as well as a digital instrument display.

There are additional technologies on board, including level 2 autonomy, like automatic parking and partial control over speed and steering.

"The el-Born has a similar hatchback look to the VW ID Hatch, with a spacious cabin and cabin forward look, a digital cockpit and 10" infotainment inside, a degree of autonomous ability and, say SEAT, is 95 per cent production ready.
